From Dr. Albert Schweitzer :

"Any religion or philosophy which is not based on a respect for life is not a true religion or philosophy." . . . "Just as white light consists of colored rays, so Reverence for Life contains all the components of ethics: love, kindness, sympathy, empathy, peacefulness, and a power to forgive."

Thoughts & Ramblings

Civilized Man

With all the changes in the world since Abraham, are we better off in God's eyes? We can talk about science, medicine and technology creating this great standard of living. But is there less pain and suffering? We have wars, cruelty, disease, starvation, and in the process of "improvement" we are destroying mother earth. Is this progress? Are we better off?

Life is a gift from God. Perhaps extending man's life expectancy is an act of appreciation. Although, I don't see appreciation for God as a driving force behind science or medicine. We all exist in eternity and singularly because we exist in the mind of God. The body is just a phase of eternity. Is it significant whether the time spent in that phase is 40 or 185 years? (If I sound conflicting, it is because I am conflicted.)

Good and Evil

Why does God permit evil? Couldn't we all be angels sitting around listening to harps all day? Wouldn't that be easier than war, disease, pestilence, and hate? Evil doesn't exist in nature, only in the hearts of men. Is evil the absence of good as darkness is the absence of light? Or is evil a force onto itself? Evil is active, while darkness, as the absence of light is passive. If man is inherently good, then evil must be the exercise of free will. So is man inherently good? If so why did Christ tell us to 'repent because the kingdom of heaven is at hand' (Mark 1:14-15)? "Repent" is used often throughout the Bible. If we are told to repent, that is change our thinking, our thinking must be wrong. Paul advised us to 'put on the new man' (Eph 2:15, Eph 4:24, & Col 3:10) for the same reasons. A new born baby is innocent and acquires sin. Is this through choice, circumstance, or ignorance? Something changes forever when an infant first hears the word NO. He makes a choice to do it again or to reframe. The choice wakens the ability to weigh consequences. Sin consciousness is born.

Thoughts

May 28, 05

There is a part of me that lives eternally in the mind of God.
I see a flock of egrets overhead and think, God did that. I need to learn to be able to look in the mirror and say the same.
I see the look of complete trust and unconditional love in the eyes of my dogs and I know that is how God meant for me to love.
Sacred is the Ordinary, open your eyes.

(Choosing Joy)
Ordinary moments are sacred.
See them, value them!
"The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want."
Through God, I lack for nothing.
I am complete and perfected in God's eyes.
Be still, allow the 'Christ in you' to be.

What is intelligent design compared to random patterns? Intelligent design has these components:

1. Small probability of occurrence
2. Specifications - Is the pattern specific

Mt Rushmore as an example of small probability of random occurrence & the design is very specific therefore it is intelligent design.
